Churches offer cantata, music, living nativity

This choral work was written by Lloyd Larson and Douglas E. Wagner. Blending new melodies and familiar carols, this musical recalls the dark days of anguish for ancient Israel, which give way to the dawning of a new day of light and love when Christ was born.
The cantata is under the direction of Dr. Don Simmons and features the Chancel Choir, with dramatic narration by members of the congregation.
The front of the sanctuary will be banked with poinsettias.
The public is invited. For more information, call 704-938-4623 or visit www.FirstPresb.org.

Two more blood drives scheduled before holidays
December 10, 2008
The American Red Cross of Cabarrus County will host community blood drives at two Kannapolis locations to support critical blood needs during the holiday season.
Someone will need blood every two seconds — even through the busy holiday season. Blood transfusions are needed by people with cancer, sickle cell, anemia, surgery and trauma patients. Those needs don’t stop for the holidays.
“Giving blood during the holidays can be a challenge. Added commitments — to friends, family and faith leave us with crammed schedules,” said Nancy Litton, executive director, American Red Cross, Cabarrus County Chapter.
“Finding the time for a blood donation gets further challenged with winter cold and flu season — and with all the running we do, it is easy to get run down.
“Giving blood is a meaningful, selfless gift to another. The need for blood never goes away — sometimes the holiday season will be particularly demanding.
“Surgery, traffic or other events that cause injuries, folks trying to schedule procedures before the end of the calendar (and a new deductible) or wanting to schedule things when they are ‘off work’ can make demand for blood harder to manage,” Litton said.
One blood donation can save up to three lives. This holiday season give the gift of life — donate blood.
Two community blood drives scheduled for the Kannapolis include:
• Monday, Dec. 15, Kannapolis Fire Department, 300 Firehouse Drive 201 Vance St., 3-7:30 p.m.
• Tuesday, Dec. 23, First Presbyterian Church, 2:30-6:30 p.m., 210 Vance St.
To schedule an appointment to give blood, or for information on additional blood drives, call 704-720-7425; giveblood4redcross@ctc.net or www.cabarrus county.redcross.org
