Trio of Intimidators promoted to WarthogsBy Bill Kiser Kannapolis Citizen The Kannapolis Intimidators saw their roster undergo another shakeup last week, with three players promoted to Winston-Salem. Pitchers Matt Long, Daniel Albritton and Anthony Carter all got the callup to the Warthogs, the Chicago White Sox’s Advanced-A level Carolina League team. The trio was replaced by pitcher Levi Maxwell, who was sent down from Winston-Salem after a three-week stint; and pitcher Charlie Shirek, called up from Great Falls (Mont.), the ChiSox’s... read more | No Comments »
Hendrick lineup like rock bandBy Cathy Elliott Contributing NASCAR columnist I don’t really know how or why we develop personal affinities for certain celebrities, like musicians or athletes, but they are deeply rooted and can last a lifetime. Hundreds of thousands of otherwise ordinary adults, for example, leave their offices a couple of times each year to attend Jimmy Buffett concerts, draped in mardi gras beads and dressed in grass skirts and bikini tops made of coconut shells. And those are just the guys. At a NASCAR event... read more | No Comments »
Familiar face rejoins IntimidatorsBy Bill Kiser Kannapolis Citizen One of the Kannapolis Intimidators’ best offensive players last season has rejoined the club, as another I’s player received his callup orders. Infielder Sergio Miranda was reassigned to Kannapolis on May 20 from Winston-Salem, the Chicago White Sox’s Advanced-A Carolina League team. Miranda takes the place of infielder Greg Paiml, who was called up to the Warthogs the same day, and was the second player added to Kannapolis’ roster last week. Also joining... read more | No Comments »

Top spot unlucky for most, not KahneBy John Watson Kannapolis Citizen In a race many thought would be boring, Kasey Kahne added some excitement in the closing laps as he put the finishing touches on the “Memorial Day Classic” also known as the Coca Cola 600. Winner of last week’s All-Star Race, Kahne piloted his red No. 9 Budweiser Dodge Charger to Victory Lane for the second straight week of racing at Concord’s Lowes Motor Speedway. Gillette-Evernham Racing parlayed momentum and a little opponent misfortune into a huge victory... read more | No Comments »
NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race doesn’t disappointBy John Watson Kannapolis Citizen The 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup All-Star Race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway was a mixed bag of strategy as Kasey Kahne lead the way to victory on Saturday night. For winner Kahne, it was his first win since the October 2006 race at the speedway. But this race was not for points, just a $1 million purse and bragging rights in one of the NASCAR’s top series’ crown jewel events. Kahne was also the driver of the first Dodge to ever win the All-Star event and it was Kahne’s... read more | No Comments »

Pitcher Levi Maxwell became the third Intimidators player to move up the Chicago White Sox’s minor league system when he was promoted to Winston-Salem of the Advanced-A level Carolina League. Maxwell joins infielder Joe Persichina and pitcher Steve Spurgeon to be called up... read more | No Comments »
South Atlantic League honors Intimidators pitcherBy Bill Kiser Kannapolis Citizen Kannapolis starter Johnnie Lowe became the first Intimidators player to earn a league honor this season after he was named the South Atlantic League’s pitcher of the week. The 23-year-old righthander did not give up an earned run in 12 innings over two appearances for the period between April 28 and May 4, allowing six hits and four walks while striking out 10 batters. Lowe, a sixth-round pick by the Chicago White Sox in the 2007 Draft, opened the week with six... read more | No Comments »
Trojans in, Wonders outBy Bill Kiser Kannapolis Citizen Kannapolis’ two high school baseball teams wrapped up their regular-season schedules this week heading in opposite directions. While A.L. Brown’s players are packing up their gear, Northwest Cabarrus is looking to turn its fortunes around entering the state 3A playoffs. The Trojans wrapped their season at 14-9 and 10-8 North Piedmont Conference, good for a third-place tie with South Rowan in the league standings. That was also good enough to give Northwest one... read more | No Comments »
