Community groups invited to apply for Park Improvement Grants

Community groups and school organizations that are interested in improving or adding to recreation facilities are encouraged to apply for the Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Department Matching Incentive Grant Program. Applications will be accepted through June 18.
The matching incentive grant program allows non-profit community groups to assist in providing recreation facilities in their local communities. Those eligible to apply for funds include parent-teacher organizations, civic clubs, athletic/recreation associations and school booster clubs. Incentive grants will provide up to 50 percent of the actual project cost. The amount of county funds available for the grants will be determined when the Board of Commissioners approves the fiscal year budget by June 30.
All projects must be located on publicly owned property — that is, property owned by Cabarrus County, the Cabarrus County or Kannapolis boards of education, a municipality within the county or a property leased to the county or a municipality for a minimum of 15 years. When complete, the project must be open to the public on a nondiscriminatory basis.

Applications must be received at the Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Office at 2323 Concord Lake Road in Concord by 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 18. The Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Commission will prioritize the requests and make a recommendation at its meeting Thursday, June 19 at 7 p.m.
