Rowan Literacy Council tutor training session to be held

The Rowan County Literacy Council will hold a tutor training workshop in the Stanback Room of the Rowan Public Library. Orientation will be held this Thursday, May 29, from 7-9 p.m. to explain the role of the volunteer tutor in helping adults to read or learn English as a second language.
At the end of the orientation, participants will be able to sign up for the next three sessions to be held June 2 and 5 from 5:30-9 p.m. and June 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration for these three sessions costs $20 and covers the cost of materials. To be certified as a tutor, participants must attend all four sessions.
Reserve a place in orientation by calling the literacy office at 704-216-8266.

Open house
Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County will host an Open House on June 8 from 2-4 p.m. for the public to tour the six-bed expansion of the Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.
This expansion brings the total number of beds to 12, six residential beds and six general in-patient beds. Hospice inpatient care is helpful for those in need of evaluation and treatment of symptoms that are difficult to control. Extensive medical and nursing care is provided. Once the situation has stabilized, the patient may return to his or her home, Hospice residential care or other arrangement. Hospice residential care serves those whose life expectancy is measured in days or weeks, rather than years.
Usually these families have no alternatives to meet their health-care needs at home. A physician must approve admission to the inpatient and residential programs.
