Mary Whitman

NEW LONDON — Mary Bray Whitman, 94, formerly of Kannapolis, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008. She was born Sept. 27, 1914, in Franklin County, Ga., the daughter of the late Joseph W. and Lucy Faulkner Bray. She attended Sandy Cross School, Franklin County, Ga.  A resident of the area since 1933, she was employed by Cannon Mills Co. Plant 1 No. 4 Spinning Room for 43 years until her retirement in 1976.   She attended New Hope Lutheran Church, Kannapolis, where she was a charter member, and had been active with Bethany Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Shelton L. Whitman who died in October 2002; and son Lucky Joe Whitman, who died in May 2006. Survivors include three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Services were Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, at Whitley’s Funeral Home Main, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Kim Trabold.
