Wastewater spill in Kannapolis

April 14, 2009

Pursuant to North Carolina General Statutes, the city of Kannapolis has reported an untreated wastewater spill to surface waters today.

The spill occurred due to a grease build-up in the sewer system, resulting in a manhole overflowing within the Concord Lake Basin.

It is estimated that the spill amount could have been as much as 6,000 gallons. All repairs have been completed and no evidence of significant environmental damage has been identified. Inspection and testing is continuing until a finding of no significant impact to surface water is confirmed.
