‘Butch’ Murray


Charles “Butch” Dewey Murray, 64, formerly of 4339 Rainbow Drive, Kannapolis, died Monday, March 24, 2008, at Five Oaks Nursing Center, Concord, after an extended illness.
Born Dec. 8, 1943, in Cabarrus County, he was a son of Catherine Overcash Helms of Kannapolis and the late Charles J. Murray. A lifetime resident of the area, he had been employed in construction most of his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, Kannapolis.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Clifford R. Helms Sr.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by sisters Diane Scott, Kernersville, and Carolyn R. Helms, Kannapolis; brother Cliff Helms, Concord; daughter, Chaley Estabrook, Kannapolis; and six other children in North Carolina, Florida and Texas.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Jimmie Melton. A graveside service was held Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Carolina Memorial Park.
