Henry Ball

DAVIDSON — Henry Chester Ball, 87, 8600 Archer Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at his home. 

He was born March 23, 1921, in Wilkes County, son of the late John Avery and Laura Jane Marlow Ball. 

He retired from Cannon Mills Co. Plant 1 Card Room. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Kannapolis Ward.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Nancy Ball Smith, and two grandchildren.

Services were Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008,  at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Kannapolis Ward. Burial, Ball family cemetery in North Wilkesboro with full military rites. 

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Myrtle Ball; children Susan B. Jones and Rita B. Love, both of Charlotte, Michael Henry Ball and Angela B. Sheppard, both of Concord; brother Lewis Ball; sisters Beatrice Wilson, Lacy Woodie, Getsy Smith and Goldie Moore; 20 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

Sam Shaver

KANNAPOLIS — Samuel “Sam” Everette Shaver, 82, 6600 Miller Road, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at Hospice House.  

Born May 28, 1926, in Rowan County, Mr. Shaver was a son of the late John Linker and Arline Wise Shaver. He formerly owned and operated Sam’s Food Center in Kannapolis. He was a member of Jackson Park United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Frances Shaver, and a son, Randy E. Shaver. 

Survivors include a granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; sisters Margaret Thompson and Doris Platon, both of Kannapolis, Helen Sides, Norfolk, Va.; and  brothers Gene, John and Earl Shaver, all of Kannapolis. 

Services were Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Chuck Halipilias. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Nellie Brown

KANNAPOLIS — Nellie Marie Cleary Brown, 82, 1201 Klondale Ave., died Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at her home. 

Born Dec. 23, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Quincy O. and Mary Frances Walker Cleary.  She attended Wilkes County schools. She retired from Cannon Mills in 1982, having worked many years in the No. 7 Weave Room at Plant 1. She attended Genesis Baptist Church. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Henry Brown.

Survivors include daughter Betty Brown Judd, Kannapolis; sisters Faye Baucom, Maizie Loggins and Bonnie Wilson, all of Kannapolis; brothers Arlie Cleary, Kentucky, and Ivor “Bud” Cleary; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. 

A service was held Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Gene Edwards. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Troy Broome

KANNAPOLIS — Troy Broome Sr., 87, 1703 S. Main St., died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at his home. 

Born May 17, 1921, he was the son of the late Monroe  and Bessie Moser Broome. He attended Union County schools. He worked for Cannon Mills Co. as a harness repairer and retired in 1984. He was a member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church. 

He was preceded in death by a daughter and a granddaughter. 

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Ethel Helms Broome; son Troy Broome Jr., Kannapolis; daughter Crystal Mason, Statesville; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. 

A service was held Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Jim Griggs. Burial, Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe. 

 

Harley Rhinehardt

CONCORD — Harley Jasper Rhinehardt, 61, Concord, died Tuesday, Nov.  4, 2008, at Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast.   

Mr. Rhinehardt was born in Cabarrus County, the son Dorothy Lapish Rhinehardt, Concord, and the late Wiley Baine Rhinehardt. A 1965 graduate of Odell High School, he was a Vietnam veteran and retired from Viking Supply Net in Charlotte.

He is also survived by his wife, Iris Harrison Rhinehardt, to whom he was married 36 years; and daughter Amber Rhinehardt, Charlotte.      

Services were Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at Hartsell Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Darrell Coble.

Joyce P. Ramsey

KANNAPOLIS — Joyce Peterson Ramsey, 76, formerly of 370 Sunny Ridge Lane and 8924 Old Salisbury Road, Linwood, died Nov. 5, 2008, at Avante of Concord.

She was born Sept. 24, 1932, in Cabarrus County, daughter of the late Samuel Henry and Docia Mann Peterson. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Nole Ramsey. 

She retired from Cone Mills, Salisbury.

Survivors include daughter Jodie Bailey; stepchildren Tracy Ramsey, Alan Ramsey, Tammy Thompson, Lisa Ramsey and Tony Lee Ramsey; stepmother Pearlie Peterson; stepbrother Tommy Taylor; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at the National Cemetery, Salisbury, officiated by the Rev. Raymond Davis.

Jerry Phifer

KANNAPOLIS — Jerry Phifer, 61, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at CMC-NorthEast.

Born March 10, 1947, he was the son of the late Reece and Beatrice Heath Phifer. He was educated in the Cabarrus County schools and retired from Fieldcrest Cannon. He was a deacon and financial secretary at his church and served on the trustee board. 

Survivors include wife Regina Wilkes Phifer; daughter Latonia Lynn Wilson, Kannapolis; brother John L. Phifer; sister Janette Brown,  Kannapolis; and three grandchildren. 

A service was held Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, at First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Harold McNeill. 

Kannapolis Mortuary is assisting the family.

 

Hubert Carraway

HUNTERSVILLE — Hubert Jerry Carraway, 70, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at Presbyterian Hospital, Huntersville. 

Born Jan. 26, 1938, he was the son of the late Hubert and Annie Martin Carraway. 

He was preceded in death by a son.

Survivors include wife Betty Carroll Carraway; son Michael Barron, Clarkesville, Ga.; daughters Gina Barron and Nancy Michelone, both of Huntersville; brother John Carraway, Ocean Isle Beach; sister Emily Maner, Bernalillo, N.M.; and seven grandchildren.  

A service was held Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Pat Childers and the Rev. Max Smith. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

 

David Watkins

HARRISBURG — David Baxter Watkins Sr., 71, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at his home.  

He was the son of the late Loyd A. and Doris Eatman Watkins. He was a graduate of West Mecklenburg High School and was employed by Carpenter Industries in Concord. He was a member of Kings Way Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife Emily Broome Watkins; sons David B. Watkins Jr., China Grove, and Joe L. Watkins, Locust; brothers Sonny Watkins, Charlotte, and Dale Watkins, Vale; and four grandchildren.

A service was held Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at Kings Way Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Bradley Price. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Harrisburg.

Rev. Robert Edsell

MOORESVILLE — the Rev. Robert William Edsell Sr., 76, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008.

Born May 16, 1932, he was the son of the late Roy Lee and Blanche Cress Edsell. He graduated from Concord High School in 1950 and from Lenoir-Rhyne College in 1955. In 1958, he graduated from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. He was a minister of the Gospel of Christ for 50 years, serving congregations throughout the Piedmont. 

Survivors include Martha Rose Miller Edsell, his wife of 53 years; daughters Maria Edsell Lambert, Amy Edsell Poteat, Anna Edsell Willis; and son Robert William Edsell Jr., all of Mooresville; sisters Nell Coffey, Burlington, Hilda Petty, Kannapolis, Helen McClamrock and Jo Carolyn Mauldin, both of Concord; 11 grandchildren; and one granddaughter. 

A service was held Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, at Community in Christ Lutheran Church, Cornelius, conducted by the Rev. Travis Norton. Burial, Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity Cemetery, Mount Pleasant.

Darolene Goodman

KANNAPOLIS — Darolene Rae Morris Goodman, 63, 801 Oakwood Villa Drive, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at her home. 

Born Aug. 23, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Hilda Litaker Morris. 

A service was held Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Joey Spry. 

Survivors include children Sherry Severt, Kannapolis, and Eric Twitty and Denise Hogue, both of Concord; sisters Vickie Shumake and Debbie Tyner; brother Jerry Morris; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Hubert Adams

KANNAPOLIS — Hubert James Adams, 82, 706 Leonard Ave., died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at his residence, following a period of declining health.

He was born Feb. 4, 1926, in Madison County, Ga., son of the late John Will and Blonnie Whitlock Adams. He was educated in the Georgia schools. He retired from Cannon Mills Plant 4 in 2000 following 30 years of service. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Mae Cavin Adams, on April 23, 2008. 

He is survived by stepson Troy Harwell, Kannapolis;  stepdaughter Mildred Hunter, China Grove; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008,  at Whitley’s Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. James Pauley. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park. 

 

Edith Goldin

CHINA GROVE — Edith Evangeline Newark Goldin, 75, China Grove, died  Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at her residence.  

Born Dec. 25, 1932, in Warren, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry A. and Kathryn Hambleton Newark Woodard. Self-employed in the house-cleaning industry, she was an Avon representative for more than 20 years.

Mrs. Goldin was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and VFW Post 3006 Auxiliary.  

Her husband, Gilbert Goldin, preceded her in death

Survivors include daughters, Debbie Curtner, Dianne Merchant, Darlene Seefong and Denise Evans; son Tom Goldin; brothers James, Forest and Roger Newark; sister Mary Szczerba; 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at Rowan Memorial Park, with the Rev. Carrie Bishop officiating.

Peggy Osborne

LOCUST — Peggy Rachel Griffin Osborne, 84, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis.

Born Feb. 23, 1924, she was the daughter of the late James and Bessis McClain Griffin. She was a member of Carolina Presbyterian, Locust.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Brock Olen Osborne.

Survivors include daughters Robin Osborne and Donna Smith, Concord, and Suzette Stirewalt, Midland; and five grandchildren.

A service was held Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at Hartsell Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Gary Morris. Interment, Carolina Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

 

Elizabeth Pope

SALISBURY — Elizabeth “Lib” Nell Moss Pope, 68, 170 Pleasant Cove Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at Rowan Regional Medical Center following a period of declining health.

She was born May 28, 1940, in Cabarrus County, daughter of the late Wilford Leroy Moss Sr. and Myrtle Ruzzell Hutchinson Moss. She was educated in Cabarrus County schools. She retired from Fieldcrest-Cannon Plant 1 in 2002 following 32 years of service. 

She was a member of Canaan Baptist Church where she had been a Sunday school teacher. 

She is survived by her husband, Grady R. Pope Sr.;  sons Grady R. Pope Jr., China Grove and Johnny Pope, Kannapolis; daughters Tallie Crowell, Salisbury, and Tierney Stirewalt, Bristol, Tenn.; sister Robbie Holloway, Lake City, Fla.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. 

Services were Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, at Canaan Baptist Church, the Rev. Bruce Graham officiating. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

‘Buddy’ Barrier

CONCORD — Harry Lamar “Buddy” Barrier, 64, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008.    

Born Feb. 7, 1944, he was the son of the late Harry Lawrence and Dorothy Dunn Barrier. He was a graduate of Winecoff High School and attended Appalachian State University. He was a sales representative in the trucking industry, retiring from Wilson Trucking in February 2006. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church. 

Survivors include wife Alice O’Brien Barrier; son Jason Lamar Barrier, Georgetown, S.C.; daughter Jessica Barrier, North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; stepsons Frederick G. Ernsting, Windsor, Colo., and James P. Ernsting, Portsmouth, Va.; sister Janice Burris, Concord; and six grandchildren. 

A service was held Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, at Central United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Andy Lankford. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Ruby Hartsell

CONCORD — Ruby Barringer Hartsell, 90, U.S. 73, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at Cabarrus County Hospice & Palliative Care. 

Born Sept. 24, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Titus and Carrie Parker Barringer. She was a lifetime member of Bethel (Bear Creek) United Church of Christ, and was a member of the Degree of Pocahontas in the Improved Order of the Redmen and the Piedmont Dairy Goat Association. She was a Cabarrus County 4-H volunteer. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney J. Hartsell Sr., and son, Mickey Hartsell.

Survivors include daughter Diann Hiatt, Concord; sons Sidney J. Hartsell Jr., Spruce Pine, and Anthony Hartsell, Concord; brothers Fred Barringer, Norwood and Zeb Barringer, Lexington; sisters Evelyn Holt, Albemarle, Helen Hill, Lexington, Annie Mae Huneycutt, Mount Pleasant, and Gladys Crawley, Richfield; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. 

A service was held Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at Bethel (Bear Creek) United Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. Bobby Bonds. Burial, church cemetery.

Abdullah Mahmud

CHINA GROVE — Abdullah U. Mahmud, 59, China Grove, died Nov. 4, 2008, in Winston-Salem.

Born Aug. 25, 1949, in Autryville, he was a son of the late Symoline Newton and Isaiah Herring. He was also reared by the late Mr. and Mrs. Willie Ivey. Educated at Phillips Schyler High School in Albany, N.Y., he attended State University of New York at Albany and was a 1981 graduate of Livingstone College.

Mr. Mahmud was employed in the food services department at W.G. “Bill” Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury. He was a member of Masjid Al-Muminum, Statesville; Upsilon Beta Sigma chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc.; and a Union Steward for AFGE Local No. 1738 at Hefner VA Medical Center.

Survivors include wife Phyllis Alexander Mahmud; children Jeffrey Alexander, Durham, Amaryllis Stevenson, Salisbury, Abdullah U.I. Mahmud and Aziz H. Mahmud, of the home; and four grandchildren.

Services were Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at Noble and Kelsey’s Funeral Home. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

 

Dot Brandon

KANNAPOLIS — Dorothy “Dot” Cornelia Patterson Brandon, 87, 501 Tuttlewood Drive, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at Morningside of Concord. 

Born Oct. 9, 1921, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Brandon was the daughter of the late Louis A. and Effie Michael Patterson. She was a homemaker and a member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, George B. Brandon Jr., and a son, George B. Brandon III. 

Survivors include sons Richard “Dick” Brandon,  China Grove and Thomas “Tom” Brandon, Leesburg, Va.; sister Mary P. Shropshire, Concord; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. 

Services were Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Richard Rhoades. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Conley Hoffner

MOUNT ULLA — Conley Mark Hoffner, infant son of Mark Timothy and Ashley Bryant Hoffner of Mount Ulla, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at Duke University Hospital, where he was born Oct. 24, 2008.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by maternal grandparents Derek and Becky Burchette Overcash, and Jim and Janie Bryant, Salisbury; maternal great-grandparents Fred and Martha Burchette, China Grove, Shirley Bryant, Denton, Curtis and Pam Overcash, Rockwell; maternal great-great-grandmother Doris Campbell, China Grove; paternal grandparents Tim and Linda Wooten Hoffner, Mount Ulla; paternal great-grandparents Jean Wooten, Cleveland, Carl and Hazel Hoffner, Mount Ulla. 

Services were Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Mount Ulla, with the Rev. Carl Miller officiating. Burial, St. Luke’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Mildred Lowder

MOUNT PLEASANT — Mildred Maxine “Granny” Furr Lowder, 70, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at CMC-NorthEast.

Born Aug. 5, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Homer Clyde and Viola Smith Furr. She retired from Shogren Hosiery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horrace E. Lowder.

Survivors include daughter Maxine Johnson, Mount Pleasant; son Andy Lowder, Mount Pleasant; adopted daughters Breeze Brenda Furr, Harrisburg, and Margaret F. Thompson, Concord; sister Peggy Helms, China Grove; brother Jimmy Furr,  Stanfield; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A service was held Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Mitchell Wilson. Burial, Harrisburg Baptist Church Cemetery.

J.W. Morphis

LEXINGTON — John Wellborn “J.W.” Morphis Jr., 89, Choyce Street, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at Lexington Memorial Hospital. 

Born April 12, 1919, he was the son of the late John Washington and Miranda Bean Morphis. He was a graduate of Reeds High School and retired from Piedmont Funeral Home. He was a member of  Lexington Moose Lodge and the Tarheel Legion. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Walker Morphis.

Among his survivors is brother Frank Morphis, Mooresville. 

Services were Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at North Lexington Baptist Church. Burial, Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Mitch Byrd

CONCORD — Mitchell “Mitch” Lyle Byrd, 47, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville. 

Born Nov. 11, 1960, he was the son of Helen S. Byrd of Concord and the late James M. Byrd. He was a graduate of Northwest Cabarrus High School and East Carolina University. He was vice president of business development at Technology Partners Inc. in Charlotte. He was an Eagle Scout and a past president of the Risk and Insurance Management Society. 

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Lynne Rahe Byrd; and brother Michael L. Byrd, Concord.   

A service was held Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, at Forest Hill United Methodist Church, Concord, conducted by the Rev. David Hobson and the Rev. Freida Hobson.

Kevin Cano-Sandres

KANNAPOLIS — Kevin Javier Cano-Sandres, 20, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2008.  He was the son of Ramon R. Cano and Suyapa S. Cano. 

He was a 2007 graduate of A.L. Brown High School where he lettered all four years in football as a defensive lineman and served as captain of the varsity squad during his senior year. He was an all-conference performer in football and received numerous awards. He was recruited by West Point Academy.

In addition to his parents, survivors include his sister, Aminta, and brother, Luis, both of the home. 

A service was held Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

 

Mary Wilhelm

MOORESVILLE — Mary Rogers Wilhelm, 85, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at the Gordon Hospice House. 

Born Feb. 23, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Claude Orien and Lillie Blanche Mills Rogers. She retired from Draymore Manufacturing and was a member of Vanderburg United Methodist Church. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas James Wilhelm.

Survivors include son Daniel Wilhelm and daughter Judy Brumley, both of Mooresville; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. 

A service was held Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at Vanderburg United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Susan German. Burial, church cemetery.

‘Ruth’ Blackwelder

CONCORD — Myrtle “Ruth” White Blackwelder, 88, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, in Alpharetta, Ga. 

Born July 4, 1920, she was the daughter of the late M.G.  and Jennie Talbert White. She was a member of Ann Street United Methodist Church. 

 She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Blackwelder.

Survivors include son J.M. “Mike” Blackwelder,  Alpharetta, Ga.; sister Rachel Wilhelm, Concord; and two grandchildren. 

A service was held Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, at Wilkinson Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Merrill Perkins. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery.

Richard Moore

CHARLOTTE — Richard Moore, 82, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at his home.

Born Dec. 4, 1925, he was the son of the late Fred and Mina Buffington Moore. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a lifetime member and three-time past master of Masonic Vesper Lodge in Galesburg, Ill., and was a member of First Christian Church, Galesburg.  He was a carpenter and worked in the family business.

Survivors include is wife of 58 years, Betty Godfrey Moore; daughter Becky Lynn Moore Hoff, Pinellus Park, Fla.; son Richard “Rick” Dean Moore, Romeoville, Ill.; sister Helen Smith, Eunice, Mo.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A service was held Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel.

Arnold E. Poe

KANNAPOLIS — Arnold Eugene Poe, 61, Kannapolis, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at the home of his brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Donna Poe.  

Mr. Poe was born in Concord Nov. 16, 1946, a son of the late Curtis C. Poe Jr. and Zanie White Poe. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran, having served as an airframe and power plant mechanic. He was a lifetime member of DAV Post 27, Concord.  

Survivors include brothers Tony C. and Carl L. Poe, both of Kannapolis, and Phillip L. Poe, Houston, Texas.  

Services were Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, at the National Cemetery in Salisbury with the Rev. Karen Kaser Odor officiating. Military rites by the Rowan Veterans Council.

‘Bud’ Lambert

KANNAPOLIS — Noah “Bud” Edward Lambert, 83,  313 S. Rose Ave., died Wednesday Nov. 5, 2008, at his residence. 

Born Aug. 14, 1925, he was a son of the late Espy and Macie Fink Brown Lambert. He was educated in the Cabarrus County schools and retired from Fieldcrest Cannon after 40 years of service. He was a member of Landis Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. He was a former member of VFW Post 8989.     

He was preceded in death by a son,.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Blanche Baker Lambert; sons James Edward Lambert and Randy Darnell Tutterow, both of Kannapolis; daughters Janice Faye Hagler, Rockwell, Betty Jean Welch, Troutman, Hilda Smith, China Grove and Kathy Almond, Kannapolis; brother Doyet Lambert, Salisbury; 21 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. 

A service was held Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at Landis Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Billy Honeycutt. Interment, Carolina Memorial Park with military rites by  Cabarrus County Veteran’s Honor Guard.
